Enjoy the beautiful underwater life and the spectacular wall of dancing light at Car Wash Cenote

Rocks Water

Car Wash Cenote is also known as Actun Ha literally “rocks water” in Maya. There’s nothing clever in the name because people used to bring their cars there to wash them.

Now the Cenote is used by divers it is a great place for snorkelling as well. It is an awesome dive for open water divers through to fully trained cave divers. It’s also a great training site.

In the Open water, we can see turtles, fish and Lilly pads. In the cavern area, when the sun is good, we can see the flickering beams of intense light refracting off of the surface. It creates a stunning visual display.

It’s a great place to take pictures and videos of the amazing phenomenon.

Car Wash is a great Cenote to visit for Cavern Diving.

The closeness of the car park, simple access to the water and big open water area make it an easier Cenote to dive. We can practice skills and get confident with our buoyancy before entering the Cavern.

The open area is full of life. Lilly pads provide a green backdrop. Many fish are at home in the Cenote. A few freshwater turtles are paddling around looking for food.

Then we go into the Cavern Zone. When we enter the cavern we can always see the light from the entrance. Beautiful shimmering light creates a wall of intense light that enters the cavern at a different angle depending on the time of day.

All of this makes it a great place to come and do a cavern tour. If you are confident it’s a great cenote to bring your underwater camera. Videographers and photographers love the light and nature here.

Car Wash Cenote is great for Scuba Diving.

With an Open Water certification, you can explore the beautiful open area with its abundance of life and venture into the Cavern Zone to see the stunning light effects.

If you are a certified Cave Diver we can go further into both the upstream and downstream cave to see some of the amazing rock formations.

The bigger open water area and cavern zone make Car Wash an excellent training site. So you can learn new skills surrounded by beautiful scenery. We love teaching Sidemount and Cavern courses here.

Into the Cavern

The amazing light effect is created when sunlight hits the surface of the water. Ripples on the surface cause the light to bend and form intense “Beams” which flood the cavern area with a stunning “Wall of Light.” The angle of the sun is important to get the right effect. Do you know when the best time to go diving at Cenote Car Wash? The edge of the Cavern area.

Some people might have concerns about going into a cave or a cavern. That is why Best Cenote Dives has handpicked our cavern dives to maximise your safety and enjoyment. You can see it. Even when we are at the back of the Cavern the space is so big that the light from the entrance is easy to see, but as an extra safety precaution, we always place a line from the entrance to wherever we are in the cavern. Best Cenote Dives are focused on your safety first so dive with Best Cenote Dives, for the safest most enjoyable dives in Tulum.

The Open Area, the most beautiful training area

Tulum is the best place to go cave diving because it has the biggest and most beautiful caves in the world. While you are here you can take a course to learn more about Cavern diving or how to use the Sidemount diving equipment. Car Wash is a great training area for these courses. At Best Cenote Dives we dive Sidemount in Caverns all the time so we do the best courses.

Special Surprise

Often in the Cenotes, we have special things to see which can we wonderful and in some cases surreal. One of the amazing things to see at Car Wash is the beautiful turtles. Rest assured they don’t come into the Cavern area. They paddle around in the open area coming up to the surface to breathe then going back down to the bottom to continue eating. It’s very exciting at the moment because they have had babies. It’s so cute to see the little ones swimming around after mum and dad.
